Many in Singapore know LPG gas as gas released from a small blue container. So, what is LP gas? LP gas or Liquefied Petroleum Gas is a rather unusual gas product in several ways in the process of its use. LPG gas is produced by perfecting petroleum (a source of fossil fuels) in the process of refining crude oil. It can also be extracted from oil wells as they emerge from the ground.

LP gas is exceptional in the form of pressurized (to facilitate storage and transportation) propane and Butane that it contains can be liquid by applying a small amount of cooling or air pressure.

This means that LPG can be easily transported in tankers because LPG occupies +/- 250 times less volume as a liquid than gas. The actual ratio between the volume of the evaporated gas and the liquid form will depend on the composition (Butane to propane) pressure, and temperature. Because LPG evaporates rapidly at normal temperatures and pressures, it needs to be supplied to the blue-cylinder steel pressurized cylinder.

Something that needs to be known about LPG GAS is that it is heavier than air, so it will settle on the floor or move down the stairs to the basement. That situation will cause the basement to become a fire hazard or indeed to strangle everyone in the basement. By law, however, LPG must be flavored with the addition of methanethiol, which will immediately emit a characteristic odor of leaky gas. LPG in reality is the energy in a container which can be rather small - the thing from a Butane tube is sold to power a small gas lamp etc. So as a product it's versatile, it's fast because it quickly releases energy, it's clean and importantly it is portable, making its application range rather wide in that it can be used in cooking, heating, cooling and lighting. LP gas distributors, therefore, make for an absolute ideal camping companion.

LP gas in Singapore is watched dogged by the liquid gas Petroleum Singapore Security Association, which regulates the safety and compliance aspects of the gas business. The association also regulates LP gas prices. The association recommends that customers always use registered installers of equipment, such as stoves and heaters, always use quality gas dealers, always use tested and verified gas products and it is important to check the seal on the cylinder to match the cylinder brand.

Of course there are also other uses for LPG gas besides using households. In modern times as an alternative to petroleum trying to drive a car, LPG also plays a part in this search. It is also increasingly used as propellant in aerosol applications in response to all questions from traditional aerosol propellants adding to the warming crisis through ozone layer damage caused by chemicals, and for the same reason it is also being used in refrigeration as a refrigerant.

As can be obtained from above, LPG is a beautiful all-round product with several interesting characteristics. For more information on LP gas visit the website www.ylhgas.com
